Ich höre noch nicht halb so lange DT wie die meisten hier, und nicht mehr halb so viel, aber Mike Portnoy war für mich das Zugpferd einer Band, die mir das für mich persöhnlich beste Album aller Zeiten geschenkt hat (I&W) und ich bin gerade sehr traurig und geschockt, auch wenn es drastischt klingt......
Wenn Gavin harrison einsteigt, werd ich vllt. irgendwann nochmal drüber hinweg kommen sorry aber den konnte ich mir nicht verkneifen.
Trotzdem, das wirft für mich ziehmlich was um......

Das stimmt ! Nach der DT Tour, der sehr anstrengenden Transatlantic Tour, dann wieder DT und direkt im Anschluss mit Avenged Sevenfold (läuft ja immer noch!!!) , hätte er sich vielleicht mal eine Pause gönnen sollen aber einmal Maniac, immer Maniac. Der Mann ist einfach immer unter Volldampf !
Um das mal Klarzustellen: Es wäre absolut fatal, wenn Harrison der neue Drummer würde, weil...
...er stilistisch nicht wirklich passt (technisch fit genug in jedem Fall)
...2 und viiiiiel wichtiger: sich damit Porcupine Tree auflösen müssten, den das, was er da alles live und Produktionstechnisch macht nicht wirklich ersetzbar ist.
Ich hoffe, Sie nehmen jemand neues, frisches, unverbrauchtes, der einfach Bock darauf hat, Grenzen auszuloten!!!

Obviously you've all heard the news of Mike's departure from Dream Theater by now.
I felt it important to open up a line of communication in an effort to kill any rumors and to promote clarity.
I love Mike and really hope he's happy and successful in whatever he does.
I realize that Mike was always the one to actively stay in touch with our fans, and I just wanted to let you know that I'm going to try to be at least a bit more present on both mine and DT's websites and to let you all know that I am here.
To me, Dream Theater's story is one of defying the odds, standing for true integrity in music and creating our own success through perseverance and hard work, so although Mike's leaving is heartbreaking, I still look forward to an amazing musical journey that continues on with some of the most talented and respected musicians and composers on the planet!

Das ist mir mittlerweile auch aufgefallen, dass einige nicht nur traurig über den Ausstieg sind, sondern sie Mike jetzt fast schon richtig verachten, nie wieder DT hören wollen und A7X dafür komplett verantwortlich machen.
Und die Fan-Band-Kommunikation sah ich als wirkliches Problem, da Mike dafür der Mann war. Aber nach diesem Statement von JP sehe ich der Zukunft wieder etwas positiver entgegen und wir bekommen mal wieder bestätigt, was wir doch an unserem JP haben.
Aus Myung die tragende Säule zwischen Fans und Band zu machen wäre wohl auch etwas zu viel verlangt.

Das stimmt mit Gavin Harrison, war auch nur ein dummer Gedanke, er gehört mittlerweile einfach sowas von zu Porcupine Tree.
Ja jemand junges hungriges wäre cool, aber auch jemand der mehr zu sagen hat als das 1000 mal kopierte 0815 Prog Metal Drumming.

Nichtsdestotrotz gehe ich davon aus, dass DT schon bald einen passenden Ersatz finden werden (wie wärs mit Neil Peart ). Ich denke auch dass Axel recht hat, dass auch laufende Verträge bei dieser Entscheidung eine Rolle gespielt haben. Die machen schließlich auch nicht erst seit gestern professionell Musik. Mit Respekt auf die Leistung von MP freue ich mich daher auf neue musikalische Impulse in zukünftigen Alben von DT.
Verrückt. Erst steigt MP bei DT aus, dann wird JP in seinem Forum aktiv. Das scheint mir wie ein seltsamer Traum
Aber JP macht mir echt Lust auf die Zukunft. Auch wenn ich mir DT ohne Portnoy immer noch nicht vorstellen kann, machen mir seine Worte Mut und ich bin gespannt.

Wie es scheint übernimmt zur Zeit John Petrucci den Kontakt zu den Fans, ich bin diesbezüglich sehr auf seine Ausdauer gespannt und hoffe er hält den Kontakt noch eine Weile aufrecht.
Natürlich kann man nicht erwarten das John Petrucci nun genauso engagiert ans Werk geht wie es Mike Portnoy getan hat, dafür sind die beiden zu verschieden, aber mich freut es doch sehr das John sich bereits die Mühe gemacht hat einige Fragen seiner Fans zu beantworten.

To my knowledge, Mike's AA Suite is one, maybe two songs away from completion. Do you suppose he'll finish it in some other post-DT project? Will you guys perform any of the songs in the future, as they have been written as Dream Theater songs?
I'm sure you can only speculate on a lot of that, but it was one thing that seemed to bind Mike to Dream Theater in a way, so I can't help but be curious.

We have a manager that has always handled the band's affairs. Mike was excellent at promoting the band and making public appearances as well as communicating with our fans. We will have to step it up to match all he did.

Last question, I promise. Do you foresee a stylistic change with the forthcoming album? Many fans are speculating that Mike had a large role to play in the recent shift towards a more modern metal sound.

It's not predetermined. It happens organically when we write together. I'd rather not speculate because I've always had a passion for playing heavy music. We'll have to see what happens in the studio.
